SLOW COUNTDOWN - DAY 4

Saturday, June 5, 2010

I have been too sick to blog & it really sucks. I've been hospitalized twice this week, Tuesday for severe pain & Friday for severe pain & dehydration. I don't know what happened, but I couldn't hold anything down yesterday & spent the afternoon vomiting. Luckily, I recognized the beginning signs of dehydration & got to the hospital. By the time the doctor could see me, I was in rough shape with cold sweats, numb limbs, excruciating abdominal pain. I think it was the worst I have felt through all of this...and that's really saying something.

An x-ray showed that I have a back up of stool, but it wasn't far along enough for an enema to help. So now I am taking stool softeners & laxatives, hoping I can get moving. The doctor said I shouldn't wait until the day before the surgery to start because I would need more time to clear my bowels.

Today is better, I haven't thrown up & my pain isn't as bad. My doctor increased my meds to two Vicodins every four hours, instead of one. It is providing some pain relief, enough that I can somewhat function (and blog!).

My aunt came over to perform my first pre-surgery Jin Shin Jyutsu session. It was wonderful & relaxing.

The next four days cannot pass fast enough for me. All I can do is pray this surgery is going to help. And that I am done throwing up.

This isn't me, but it kinda looks like my hair & I love her cute dress.

Jenn,

I am so, so, so sorry you're so sick! :(

Is there any chance your aunt can do extra sessions since the Jin Shin Jyutsu is so helpful for you?

Are you using the Sea-Bands for the nausea?

I'm sooooooo sorry!

Jeanne

P.S. Isn't Vicodin one of the painkillers that can cause constipation? I understand that you need something for the pain but is there a different option that would deal with pain without causing constipation? Can you discuss this with your doctor? Can you start a liquid diet NOW to give your body an easier transition? My last colonoscopy I started the liquid diet about 4 days earlier than instructed. My body can't handle doing a prep by the directions docs give. The gradual approach helped me. It might be worth asking your doc about. Just a thought.

Thank you Jeanne. :)

I think we are going to be able to fit in one extra Jin Shin session. I had a couple days where I was too sick to do it, so it put us behind.

Vicodin does cause constipation & it seems it finally caught up with me. But it is the only thing I can tolerate taking that helps with my pain.

Great thoughts, thank you! I am going to start the liquid diet today & have already started taking laxatives & stool softeners. I definitely need more than one day to clean out.

Thanks so much for your ideas! :) Only two more days now...

OH Jenny,

I am sorry you have been so sick! I know Tomorrow is your surgery and you have to deal with prep next. Hopefully some balance will come soon.

I know that the pain meds cause a back up!! Regardless of the meds your on, they all slow down the digestion process and being on a regimine to manage pain, well... can only result in constipation. I know that constipation in conjunction with your other problems just multiplies the that horrific abdominal pain by 10 and add to that bloating and hard stools!!!! YUCK.....thank god it can all be different tomorrow!!!

I so hope all goes well, and you are pain free and healthy and feeling like normal in a couple days and then.... we can throw a "I feel pretty normal" party!!!! ASAP

I wish I could take your pain away!!!! I am rootin for Dr. 3 to take care of you!!!

Sorry Jen! Tracy
